I’ve been working in the social media “industry” for over 6 years. Mainly with churches seeking to connect with their online and global communities. But now as the owner of a local bike shop (1month old) I’ve been going back through my books looking for voices that dial in on using social media, not just for the “growing numbers / followers” spiel, but for those that see the tangible business values.

Gary - you are leaps and bounds ahead of the pack here. Thank You Economy is constantly on my desk reminding me of both the 2012 digital realities and the old school valuing of customers that it takes to succeed.

Just want to say thanks for sharing your story, never backing down, and doing the hard work of bridging the old with the new.

FOR SALE: Gin and Trombone Framset, Brakes, Saddle, Seat-post, Handlebar, Stem and Crank. $1300

This bike was ordered new as a complete bike last September and ridden one season. The Frameset retails for $1150 new, the complete bike was $2800 new. (Van Dessel Link) I’m selling everything that came with the bike except for the Rival Groupset (shifters, front and rear derailleur) and the Wheels that came with it.

There are a couple blemishes on the frame, nothing structural though. On the right chain stay there are some natural marks from the chain, on the downtube a scratch and on the front of the bike a small scratch as well. They aren’t naturally noticeable at all though.

This bike rode like a DREAM last year and the team I was one loved it as well (see our review). So why am I selling it? Well I’ve started a bike shop in the last year and I want to ride a Cross bike from the brand we sell - Specialized.

It takes the peace of solitude, the security of non comparison, and the courage of authenticity to stand out and say something worth while. My hesitations are good because I keep away from creating a pointless noise. They are bad because they keep me from shipping - but maybe we need a little less ship and a little more better.

We hear a lot about hustle, being an artist, and shipping. But most of us are shipping our barely practice, our unrefined river of thought into an environment of great noise. Maybe we don’t need to publish more, but ship more internally. Accept out own perceptions as having value, enough value to invest in truly exploring, living and knowing them to be true or false. Maybe we need a little more patience with ourselves, higher expectations of what we can do - and the peace to chase them.

Hustle is important but it’s a sloppy use of energy. I’m not advocating laziness, but focus. A football player of any capacity can hustle all through practice and it shows discipline but not ability. An olympic sprinter isn’t always running, but when she does it breaks records in one incredibly intense straight line.

Basically, I feel like we get this pressure to always be running. When strength and the remarkable things only come when we have enough rest to push our limits further then ever before.
