“When in doubt, move toward ubiquity. When wondering, favor subscriptions. Readers will pay. Moviegoers will pay. If you give them what they want, which is everything, right now, easily found and discussed.”
I love Seth’s focus on the value/problems that the movie industry is completely missing. Their only reason to go into legal mode and trying to control what people do online is because they’ve been too lazy or unwilling to simply shift their business model to give people what they would happily pay for.
This is a create prompt for a couple posts I have coming this week, that shows this isn’t a problem that is new in any way - but that our culture is experiencing the changes that used to happen over generations and is now feeling them every 3-5 years.
The ability to shift, to know the real meaning behind what you provide, and have dashboards/report cards to help you see new business or influence opportunities is essential to success and viability.
For me, having worked in churches for over 10 years, it makes me ask the question of what are people really wanting from Spiritual guidance? Is what they would find most valuable a 1 hour experience once a week? Or is there something else, tied to the same meanings, that they would happily bring their devotion into if it matched their life?
