I’m partnering to launch a Bike Shop in Oklahoma City!

Several weeks ago I announced that I was leaving LifeChurch.tv. It’s been a crazy few weeks, and just as there have been several jumps in Mandy’s and I’s life in the past decade, we are embarking in new journey’s of our own. For Mandy she has seen a lifelong dream start to become true by signing her first book contract with David C Cook publishers. I believe so much in the book, and her voice as an artist and writer - I see this book changing so many people’s lives and helping them make sense of their faith - it’s going to be wicked awesome.

So, with the next world-wide famous author writing everyday in our house I’m also jumping into completely new territory myself. For a long time, since my college days… 11 years ago (sheesh) I’ve wanted to be a small business owner. It’s that draw to ownership, investing in local community, and that it lives and dies on your shoulders has always appealed to me. But up until recently there hadn’t ever been the right fit of opportunity and passion to jump into.

As I was processing what to do next as I was preparing to step out of LifeChurch.tv I approached a gentleman I knew was wanting to open a retail bike shop. To be honest I felt sorta silly at the beginning of the conversation. This was a guy who has been in and around the bike industry for over 30 years and I’ve been cycling for a sum total of 2 - but it felt like a door to push on, and definitely a passion I have and something I was confident I could bring a lot of value to. Through those conversations I learned that not only was he receptive to me being a part - but that one of the great friends I’d made through cycling was a partner in the venture as well.

That is why I proudly announce that in 2012 I’m partnering with Charles Long and Brandon Melott to open a full retail bike shop in Oklahoma City!

Yes, this is a scary jump out of the last ten years of career - where I’ve spent my time in Christian ministry and it’s extension online. That passion and involvement isn’t going away (more on that later, *wink*.) But I’m thrilled to be a partner in launching and working in this Bike Shop heading into 2012.

I feel like all that I’m engaging with in 2012 is a pursuit towards a “wholeness” of life, of being completely me in the midst of what fits me best. From my collegiate sports and Sports Ministry days, to recent project management, social media strategy and marketing experiences at LifeChurch.tv - to the contribution in the cycling community through JoetoProCycling - the Bike Ship fits the kind of life I’m passionate about living. The chance to help people find the same health, fitness, community and freedom that is getting out from behind the desk, away from the fumes of a car, and out onto an open road - that is exciting. And that I’m connected to my city, that I’m a part of making Oklahoma City an amazing place to live - that local focus all adds into this new step.

This also means my blog here is going to shift towards the learnings of a brand new entrepreneur! Already diving into business plans, looking at pro-forma, leadership, vision and the real guts of what makes just an idea something real - I’m overwhelmed and sleeplessly engaged. If you want to stay tuned to what is happening with this new shop go over and like the Facebook Page - check out the website - and if you are in Oklahoma City - we will see you in the Spring. :)
